About the Author
Thomas Jefferson was born in Virginia in 1743 into a wealthy and socially prominent family. After attending the College of William and Mary, he went on to study law. At the age of twenty-six, Jefferson began building Monticello. Three years later, in 1772, he married Martha Wayles Skelton. The couple had six children, two of whom survived to adulthood. Considered elequent in his writing, although not as his speech, Jefferson took on much of the writing needed by the Virginia House of Burgesses and the Continental Congress, both of which he was a member. In 1776, at the young age of 33, Jefferson drafted the Declaration of Independence. From 1779 to 1781, Jefferson served as Governor of Virginia. Jefferson temporarily retired from public life after his term as governor, returning to public life in 1784 as a diplomat serving in France. In 1790, Jefferson was appointed Secretary of State in President Washington's Cabinet, but resigned in 1793 over a disagreement with Alexander Hamilton. As political disagreements continued to polarize the young government, Jefferson found himself leading those who sympathized with the revolutionary cause in France. In 1800, Jefferson was elected President in a tie vote that ironically was decided by Alexander Hamilton. In 1809, after two terms as President, Jefferson returned to his home in Monticello, where he developed, among other projects, plans for the University of Virginia. In addition, he sold his collection of books to the government to form the basis of the Library of Congress. Thomas Jefferson died on July 4, 1826.

I just became a permanent resident, so I bought the Constitution, Bill of Rights and Declaration of Independence as celebration. They are great little books and look great on a bookshelf.
I have these Little Books: Declaration of Independence, Bill of Rights, and Constitution. I keep them in my living room and people pick them up and glance through them, and because they are small they want them. I bought these three as a gift for one of my neighbors who wanted them. I think everyone should have them so they can refer to things from time to time that they may not be familiar with! They are little but have BIG information!
We bought this and a companion copy of the US Constitution as a gift for a friend who is becoming a US citizen. It makes a small and appropriate gift for the occasion.
Wish everyone would get this and read about the DOI. We are loosing our connections to our founding as evident in our "me me me" entitlement, socialist direction. Read this little book as a reminder of what our country is all about!
Nice size and good binding. I believe that everyone should have a copy of this book and the constitution in their house. We all need to read and reread these every year and should take a class that is only about these documents.
I PURCHASE DECLARATION OF INDEPENDENCE, AND TWO OTHER SMALL BOOKS FOR CHRISTMAS GIFTS FOR MY HUSBAND. MY HUSBAND AND I HAD NOT STUDIED THESE IMPORTANT PAPERS IN A LONG TIME AND WANTED TO UNDERSTAND THESE IMPORTANT THINGS GOIND ON IN THESE DAYS
The type is large enough to be easily read in dim light and the hardcover protects it while carried in my backpack and this small book has very brief informative statements about each signer. Every high school and college student should have a copy of this book. as well as the like book on the U.S. Constitution and Bill of Rights.
I had been wanting to purchase this book for my daughter for a long time. Don't know why I never thought about Amazon. Glad I did.
