We have been reading this book before bed almost every night for over a year. My son loves this book and he loves to recite the words along with me. We started reading it when he had just turned 2. He loves the bright colors and the big words. I Love the message in this book that love is unconditional. I highly recommend this book. I can see us continuing to read this book for quite a while longer.

This is one of our favorite books but I purchased this one to have a fresh copy and the wording is different than the smaller board book (which I prefer). Might not make a difference if you've never read it before but it is definitely a different version!

The grandkids love it. I always give as baby gifts with Llama, Llama, Are you my Mama, Press Here by Herve Tuillet, Goodnight Moon (Lap Edition Board Book), Brown Bear Brown Bear What do you see?, There is a Bird on Your Head, I broke my Trunk and We are in a Book, all 3 by Mo Willems, and 2 by James Dean, Pete the Cat I love My White Shoes, and Pete the Cat and his four Groovy Buttons. These make terrific shower gifts that will far outlast any other gift and will instill the love of reading. and bonding. New MOMS read to your infants, expectant Moms, read to your fetuses. They do recognize Mom's voice. Research proves this!.

Sweetest bedtime story ever! Warning: The text in the hardcover version is longer and slightly disturbing. I recommend the board book.,,super cute and flows much better. It’s all about how a mom’s Love is unconditional and goes through all these hypothetical scenarios where the Mom affirms her love for her child whether he/she was a super smelly skunk, a scary monster, an alien that eats bugs or a one eyed monster. So silly and sweet! My little one LOVES this book and I get it for every baby shower gift I give.

“Then I would look right into your one eye and say, “I love you,” and I would sing to you until your one droopy eyelid finally closed and you fell fast asleep.” ~ I Love You, StinkyfaceHow do you write a picture book that allows mothers to express their unconditional love for their children in a non-gooey, non-sappy, non-gushy way (even when we are gooey, sappy, and gushy)? Author Lisa McCourt knows. You insert the magic word: “stinky.” Add “dinosaurs,” “monsters,” and “aliens,” and gooey, sappy, gushy mothers can get away with saying the “l” word eleven times in a row–thirteen if you read the front and back covers. Love, love, love!Cyd Moore’s thoughtful and playful illustrations, particularly the child’s embrace of the mother’s face and the one-eyed monster in pajamas, lift the story to a whole new level of wonderful. Children will love looking for the monkey, bunny, toucan, and tin man.~ Anna

This was my favorite book to read to both of my children when they were small. I absolutely love the message throughout the book - basically, the mother assures her child that she will love him no matter what he becomes. It's a beautiful, and funny, book. I buy it for everyone I know who has a baby, and they all say they love it, too. Great gift for new families!

Well, my preschool, through elementary- aged boys have enjoyed this book. It's unexpected and cute in a funny sort of way for children who are so interested in big, sometimes scary, or fearsome creatures. One of many that we'll read over and over. I guess that makes it a classic? This version is actually a board book, so I'm pretty sure it's missing a little bit of details from the original version we read 10 or so years ago, but still probably 90% the same?

This is one of my daughters most favorite books. It was a gift at my baby shower, and I started reading this and other books to her around three months old. She's one year old now, and she brings me this book to read her every day.The illustrations are adorable! There's a skunk, alien, dinosaur, and more. Every page the mother explains that even if her child were one of these creatures she would love him always. I only wish they had one for Dad's! It's a wonderful baby shower gift, and a great message for any child.

I try to buy a book or a few books for my kids on their birthday or Christmas and now a days it is always hard to find that perfect book. I was searching along and found I Love You Stinky Face and I thought this was perfect for A as she just turned six. A and I actually had a huge laugh and loved saying I Love You Stinky Face. This book is greatly illustrated and goes perfect with the story being told. At bedtime a young child and his mother get ready for bed and the mother is asked questions on would you love me if I was hairy or stinky like a skunk among other things. The mother's response is always so sweet. This book is goofy but filled with love. One of A and I's favorite book to read.

If you enjoy dark romance then this is the author for you. Cato is a rich, good-looking man, but also a cruel jerk in the end. Penelope Sky's books are too much alike. I enjoyed this book more than Buttons. Why only 3 stars? One removed because I find her books to be quite short. I prefer a book that takes more than a few hours to read. A second star removed because of the price. Almost 7.00 for a kindle edition for such a short book is ridiculous in my personal opinion. I never read all of her stories due to the high price. Not worth almost 21.00 for a story. Will I read the next two? I have preordered Dictator which I hope is not just a filler which is how I often see in some of her stories. It will depend on my purchasing her third installment. I would read more of her stories if she priced them more reasonably and I believe she would sell more of she did. The second book in this story is going to be quite short as well. I don't like paying more then what something is worth.

Ok, I want to say I regret not sleeping to finishing this book, but that would be a lie. Ms Sky has captured my reader’s heart since she penned the Buttons series (Crow & Pearl). She is an instant pre-order for me because her books are not just scorching with passion and chemistry, but they pack a serious punch in the intrigue and suspense categories too. Her anti-heroes are so multilayered and intense. Her heroines are firecrackers. I love it all!*Possible Spoilers*The Banker is a must read in 2019. It ends with a crazy, heartbreaking cliffhanger, but I’m literally counting down the days until The Dictator. Cato and Siena have been in a battle of wills and power exchange since they first met. Cato allowed her to see sides of himself that he didn’t even know he possessed, but now the trust is shattered. Will Siena continue to make Cato question his most instinctual feelings and core beliefs or will she cower in the face of her vulnerable circumstance? I foresee myself crying a lot in the next book because I know there is going to be some difficult, crushing moments for both of these characters. Buckle up because I think Siena is going to give Cato a run for all he is worth!

Ahhh... 2019 is now officially off to a fantastic year, with this first book of Penelope Sky’s amazing new Banker series. Seriously, this book is a page-turner, with new characters and a couple of familiar faces as well. (This series can absolutely be read as a standalone if you’ve not read any of Ms. Sky’s previous series...although I HIGHLY recommend doing so if you have not.)Cato and Siena are amazing...they are a scorching hot couple whose sex scenes will leave you turning on the nearest fan. Siena’s strength, stubbornness, pride, and Cato’s arrogance, sexiness, and ruthlessness make these two ripe for an explosion. And explosions we get. From their first interaction to the breathtaking cliffhanger, you’ll be left wanting more. Their story is one of treachery turned to like turned to deception turned to hate that leaves you dangling on that cliff..hanging on for more. The sex is HOT, the characters are hotter, and the story is ON FIRE!! Be ready to lose some sleep over these two. You’ll be counting down the days until The Dictator comes out.I won’t post any spoilers but know you’re in for quite a ride with this one. So, buy it and hold on. The cliffhanger is a doozy...but sooooo worth it!!

Siena, has stayed away from her father and brother for years because the family business of smuggling drugs in cigars got her mother killed. Her father has been captured by his enemies and Siena, has been contacted and given a job to complete in order to save her fathers life. She wants nothing to do with it but, family is blood and she feels obligated to do it. They want her to deliver possibly the richest man in the country an impossible job. Cato is guarded day and night and own's everyone and trust's no one. She manages to get inside and Siena and Cato become close. Cato discovers she is doing this to deliver him so she can save her father. Cato has mercy for no one and is ready to kill Siena. He finds out she is pregnant and is keeping her captive until his child is born, then he will execute her. And I now sit here and wait 8 days to find out what happens next in the "Dictator" .

*** Warning...spoilers in this review*** Penelope Sky has done it again with her amazing characters! I loved that Siena is a very strong willed woman who, despite turning her back on her father for refusing to leave the underworld and getting her mother killed, refuses to abandon him. Although Crow and Bones try to convince her to run away and leave her father to his fate, Siena refuses and devises a plan to trade Cato for her father. Along the way, Cato and Siena develop a bond as they learn things about the other no one else knows and they fall for one another (though neither had admitted that their obsession with the other has gone beyond that emotion to something much deeper). I hoped so many times that Siena would just ask Cato for his help (though I didn't want her to reveal that the job wasn't the only reason she entered Cato's life) but feared the outcome. But I knew the betrayal he would feel would likely result in him executing Siena. When his brother confessed Siena's betrayal, I really thought that would be the end of her. I'm glad she turned around before the graveyard...but will Cato ever believe she changed her mind? Will the child inside her be enough to bond them...or will he feel it's all a ruse and keep the baby and kill Siena, as he's promised? I can't wait for book 2!!!

Review

“David Quammen [is] one of that rare breed of science journalists who blend exploration with a talent for synthesis and storytelling.” - Nathan Wolfe, Nature“An adventure-filled page-turner…told from the front lines of pandemic prevention.” - Lizzie Wade, Wired“As page turning as Richard Preston’s The Hot Zone…[Quammen is] one of the best science writers.” - Seattle Times“David Quammen might be my favorite living science writer: amiable, erudite, understated, incredibly funny, profoundly humane.” - Kathryn Schulz, New York Magazine“Quammen balances the technical terms with gorily gripping description and scenes from his own fearless journeys…But his real gift is his writing, with its nice balance of reverence and whimsy.” - Chloë Schama, Smithsonian“Quammen’s more teacher than Jeremiah. So he calms when he can; but he’s blunt when he must be.” - Jeffrey Burke, Bloomberg“The scariest book you’ll read this year.” - The Daily Beast“[An] ambitious and encyclopedic voyage…Mr. Quammen does a beautiful job of showing how so much of scientific knowledge is provisional, with great unknowns about infectious diseases.” - Richard Preston, author of The Hot Zone“David Quammen has done it again. Fascinating and terrifying, Spillover is a real-life thriller with an outcome that affects us all.” - Elizabeth Kolbert, author of The Sixth Extinction“This is a frightening and fascinating masterpiece of science reporting that reads like a detective story. David Quammen takes us on a quest to understand AIDS, Ebola, and other diseases that share a frightening commonality: they all jumped from wild animals to humans. By explaining this growing trend, Quammen not only provides a warning about the diseases we will face in the future, he also causes us to reflect on our place as humans in the earth’s ecosystem.” - Walter Isaacson, author of Leonardo Da Vinci

#37,423 in Books (See Top 100 in Books)

I have a weird interest in reading about diseases, and this book is one of the very best in the genre. Quammen writes for National Geographic, and he goes *everywhere.* If there was a disease outbreak in the Central African Republic in 1987, chances are, he has interviewed the doctor who first spotted the disease, the locals whose family members died, and the BSL-4 researchers in Virginia who analyzed it, and he probably also climbed down into a cave where the bat that spreads the disease roosts. This book is better than The Hot Zone. It dispels some of the over-blown language used in that book (people do not dissolve inside from Ebola.) and it is arguably just better writing.Quammen keeps the balance between travel and adventure writing on the one hand, personal interviews (of the "His desk is piled high with papers, and he's wearing blue corduroy slacks and a black turtleneck and wire-rim glasses" type), and real science writing. You learn a lot about diseases from the microscopic level to the human story of what it's like to have the disease, to the incredible courage and dedication of the people who fight the diseases, whether in the clinic or in the lab.Realistically, most of us are at essentially zero risk of dying of Ebola, but Quammen balances that with insight into things that might really harm us--SARS, AIDS, and the good old flu, which could still come roaring back as a killer.I was sorry when it ended.

Quammen makes the stories of viral discovery tangible and understandable. He manages to convey a great deal of complexity about the nature, transmission and evolution of viruses in simple and enjoyable terms. This book weaves through many narratives of mystery and intrigue - none of which have a fully complete picture yet. In a way, Quammen urges us all to keep discovering or to keep reading about those discoveries, the same way we might keep up with our favorite characters on a television show.Spillover also makes two things very clear. First, viruses can be lethal and frightening. Second, *humans* are causing this sudden tidal wave of spillover (or zoonosis) of viral infections from animal reservoirs to the human population. The book seeks not only to enlighten us to thrilling tales of discovery but also urges us to examine our role in these emerging viruses. As a part of the root cause of increased spillover, what can we, as humans, do to prevent it?

The jargon of diseases can be boring, tedious. There are a lot of acronyms and big words. Worse, we often don't know as much as we'd like -- and usually we aren't very certain of what we do know. Telling a good story given those constraints is hard. But Spillover repeatedly provides gripping stories that still impart a good understanding of what we know about zoonotic (animal-origin) diseases. Even better, the author ties disparate stories together to describe some general trend and possible causes for seemingly new infectious diseases. But I don't want to summarize the conclusions: I want you to go read it. You won't be bored and you'll learn a lot (most definitely even if you've read books like The Hot Zone or the Coming Plague). Some other notes:* The author has a less human-centric attitude and a lot of sympathy for the animals, like horses or apes, who sometimes are actually the first animal a disease spills over into only to later infect humans.* He has a wry tone. When noting the euthanasia of a large number of monkeys (even ones likely not infected with a disease), he notes no humans were euthanized despite equal exposure.* He provides full references. Some of those papers are quite readable by a non-expert such as this review ([...]) of the importance of bats as reservoirs for infectious diseases.* The stories are often told from the perspective of the scientists trying to figure out what the heck is really going on. The author is also not afraid to explain when scientists just don't know -- and how they might figure it out more.* The author went on several field collections where he might have been exposed to a disease being investigated. If I had any criticisms I would have two:* The author notes the problem of calling African hunted wild meat "bush meat" which has unsavory connotations to many Europeans and Americans despite Europeans and Americans also hunting wild animals for food. And then he still calls it that repeatedly for the rest of the book (hunted animals are a major source for new infections). I realize this makes it easier to read but it was a bit jarring.* There is a long, imagined story in the chapters on the origin HIV that is, essentially, imagined entirely with details about a possible river fisherman who gets infected with HIV early on and brings it downstream to the (then) Belgian capitol of the Congo. Elsewhere in the book when the explanation for the origin of a disease required some imagination to fill in a plausible sequence of events, the imaginary stories were a lot less elaborate. I don't think the story detracts from the accuracy of the book: something like that had to have happened to explain the origin of HIV (specifically HIV-1). I was also perfectly entertained and learned a bit about the cultures in the region, but it stood out. It might annoy some so I note you can safely skip ahead when you hit it.I call these two things out, but even so the book is still excellent. I have some interesting papers I want to read. I also feel I know more about how infectious diseases "work". Best of all, I am less fearful of them as well.

Gripping, fascinating science written in a flowing, easily digested style. To say I enjoyed this book would be an understatement. I was utterly enthralled by this book. You'll find the familiar subjects here; Ebola, HIV, etc. But you'll also find viruses you've likely never heard of, learn how biological reservoirs work (as much as they are understood at least), and the vital role of amplifiers in the lives of certain viruses. The various viruses are almost characters in and of themselves as the author delves into how, and why, they do what they do. Even the largely speculative chapter on how HIV might have gotten out of rural Africa and into the cities is fascinating. If you loved The Hot Zone, this is that book's bigger, brainier sibling. If you are at all interested in biology and physical science, you MUST read this book.
