This is not your run of the mill favorite animal, but the capybara is my son's! He learned about them (and saw them) at our local zoo. Luckily this book was written and made available by Ms. Ganeri so that he could learn more about this lovable lump of a rodent!

I got this for my daughter because she likes capybaras. It was OK but I would've preferred a few more pages, and maybe better photos of the capys.

Very cute, perfect for a child going into 1st grade to read to his grandma.

Perfect for my grandson who is totally infatuated with Capybaras. Easy reader with lots of specific information. Highly recommend it!

WILLIAM W. FITZHUGH is the director of the Arctic Studies Center and curator in the Department of Anthropology at the Smithsonian's National Museum of Natural History. Fitzhugh has conducted archaeology from Maine to Greenland and is currently excavating Basque and Inuit sites in Newfoundland and the Gulf of St. Lawrence. WILFRED E. RICHARD is a geographer with a concentration in environmental studies, photographer, and Registered Maine Guide. Richard is a research collaborator with the Smithsonian’s Arctic Studies Center, a research fellow at the Uummannaq Polar Institute in Greenland, and serves on the board of the Maine chapter of the International Appalachian Trail.

I loved this book.I thought I knew the premise of the story before downloading it, but by the end of the first few chapters I realized this was so much more then the brief first encounter of the main characters. It's a story of two young men, on opposites sides of the war, sharing the same experiences- fighting to keep sane and survive the horrors of WWII.You are introduced to Franz (the German pilot) first and then Charlie's story (the American pilot) is intertwined later on. There is no way to read Franz's portion without being in awe of what he survived-multiple bail outs, crashes, and over 480 missions. Being introduced to Franz first makes his run-in with Charlie's plane all the more remarkable - here was this battle-hardened pilot who showed unbelievable compassion, knowing if he were caught it would mean his own life.The authors do a fantastic job of seamlessly moving between the characters and you get so attached to them that I found myself hesitating when turning the pages because I wanted the ones I liked to live a bit longer. I finished it hours ago, but I know I'm going to reread my favorite chapters before bed tonight!

I am an avid reader and a picky one at that. If I start reading a book and in does not grab me within 5-10 minutes I will put it down. However this book punched me dead in the face within a few pages. I had just finished the book unbroken and was keen on finding another great WW2 book. So I searched around and came across A higher Call and bam I was in love. This is one of the greatest books I have ever read. My girlfriend who has no interest in war stories was hooked as well when she would see me get all emotional as I was reading the book next to her. She would ask me narrate to her what I was reading and she wanted to hear more and more. This book is not just the story of two war veterans, its the story of good people like most of us are being thrown into a situation where your duty to your country requires killing and somehow in the face of that finding the compassion and courage to do good. I always saw the war from the eyes of the allies, but this book showed me the war from the eyes of the enemy, but a good and honorable enemy. An enemy who himself hated the Nazis and felt the Nazis where the enemy not the Americans or English. The book shows you that not all the Germans in the war were evil bastards. The way Franz cried for a bear who lost his life because of the evils of the Germans and the death of this bear hurt Franz as much as the loss of his own blood brother tells you the compassion and moral standing of the great man. Not only was he a great man but he served in a airforce filled with great men. Men who would shoot Americans and English out of the sky but would worry if the SS troopers would find them and throw the downed pilots into concentration camps. Men who would put their own lives at risk to protect and rescue these downed pilots out of honor because they may have been the enemy but they were aeronautical brothers. This book changed my whole view on those who served in the German military. Before I read this book i would never have saluted a German WW2 veteran, but now so long as they were not sworn Nazis I will gladly salute a German Air force veteran. This book is a must read.

This is the story of Franz Stigler and Charlie Brown, two World War II pilots. Franz was a German fighter pilot. Charlie was an American bomber pilot. Their planes met in an air battle in December 1943, but due to very unusual circumstances, they ended their encounter without having shot each other from the sky. Author Adam Makos researched this remarkable story for over eight years before he published it. I was very impressed with his list of sources at the end of his book.Although Mr. Makos tells the story of both men, most of the book concentrates on Stigler, describing his youth, his desire to be a pilot, his incredible skills and bravery, his attempt to deal with the horrors of war, and ultimately, his disillusionment with Germany's path in the war. Neither Stigler nor his family were members of the Nazi Party, but as a military man, Stigler followed orders and did what he thought necessary to protect his homeland from British and American bombing raids. Growing up in a Cuban household, and raised on Cuban food means you have high expectations when it comes to that particular cuisine. More often than not one will come upon a "Cuban cook book",open the book to pages which contain an "alternative" or reconfiguration to the foods created by the Cuban masters of the past. Ana brings to the audience an authentic Cuban experience with her book. Not only are the recipes included the same as familial recipes of my own and other Cuban families. She brings humor along with her own experience of growing up Cuban. This by far surpasses any other Cuban cookbook I have purchased, and is also the best in the English language. If you have been searching for a book with authentic recipes to delight your guests, look no further, this has all the Cuban favorites!

I adapted many of the recipes to my slow-cooker and pressure cooker, and they are still just as good! FYI, for the dried bean recipes, the pressure cooker cooks the beans better than a slow cooker. I have gotten rave reviews from everything I've made so far.We have discovered an entirely new cuisine in my family, and I still have no idea who Ana Quincoces is, but a big thank you to her for writing this book. The only recipes I probably won't use are the ones that involve deep-frying--sorry, I don't deep fry, ever, but I am looking to make these dishes in some other way.

I received this book today as Amazon said I would. Right away...I took the opportunity to go through it page by page and "I Love It". Ever since my mother passed away in 2011 I lost track of the Cuban Food she used to cook for me. Being Cuban this book brought back many pleasant memories of her. I am looking forward to cook some of the dishes she used to cook for me. I am sure they are not going to taste the same as I will never duplicate the love she used to put in every dish she made for me, but the memory will be worthwhile! I love this book! I purchased it after seeing Ana on Real Housewives of Miami and reading great reviews about this particular book. Her recipes are easy to follow, and I love how she gives little tips and tricks as to her favorite brands of certain ingredients. As someone who is new to Cuban cuisine, I love that there's a glossary in the back describing ingredients that are unfamiliar to me. She also has included sample menus, tips as to which dishes compliment each other well, conversion tables for measurements, and a guide to some websites where you can find ingredients. There are many more recipes than I was expecting, including beverages and dessert!

What a wonderful book! Quincoces got all the recipes right, and they are all very easy to follow. So far I have made two of the recipes, and loved them. I just wish I could make the seafood recipes, but my body has a hard time with shellfish. Still, it looks like she's got all the mainstay Cuban recipes in here. I need to order another copy though, as I am sure this one will get worn down quickly. LOL

Yes, I reminisced looking at all the recipes. I was born in Cuba and cooking is my passion.I bought the book just in time to make the "pernil" as well as the black beans and yuca which are the main staples of a Xmas dinner. The pernil was wonderful and the yuca was delicious. The black beans were very good, but my previous recipe was tastier. I made the guava cheesecake and I cannot stop eating it. Cubans love sweet deserts and this one is definitely a sweet one.Loved the book for its simplicity and ease of cooking as well as for the anecdotes related to the recipes. Definitely a book I recommend to have in your cooking library.

I made several dishes from this cook book and all were outstanding. My favorites, thus far, are the Arroz Con Pollo and the Guava Cheesecake. The latter is not authentic but it should be! It's just that good.The author injects personal stories and humor in the narrative. Something which I love. There's always a story or two behind a recipe, and I enjoy reading about them.If you're into Cuban cooking, don't hesitate to purchase this book.

Daniel O'Brien's Your Presidential Fantasy Dream Team is a good book about the presidents, based on O'Brien's more adult oriented book - How to Fight Presidents. O'Brien keeps it interesting for adults and kids, while keeping the book appropriate for students. It is funny and laugh out loud at times, while informative. As a teacher, it is a good fit for any class library. The book is helpful when it comes to certain ideas in the classroom, making the presidents come alive in interesting and often humorous ways. If you enjoy this book I would recommend the book The Lives of the Presidents :Fame Shame and What the Neighbors Thought.

I'm a big fan of O'Brien's first book, How to Fight Presidents, and so I was very excited when I learned that he was adapting it into a version suitable for children to read. I purchased the Audible edition for myself, and I was so pleased to hear how it turned out. It's still as informative as the first book, and is still a very entertaining and amusing read. I have purchased a copy for each of my two oldest nephews in hopes of inspiring in them a love of history.

Great book! I'm a homeschooler and honestly wanted my kiddo to read "How to Fight Presidents." I have a copy and love it but while it's fine for adults, it might not be the best for a middle school kid learning about our founding fathers and the colorful characters who ran our country. ;) This was exactly what I hoped for. A PG version of the same book with all the facts and fun stuff. It's silly and I'd compare the humor to the BBC's Horrible Histories. Fingers crossed that Dan O'Brien writes even more kid friendly history books. I'll be the first in line to add it to our must read list.

One of my favorite comedy writers. I was really happy DOB wrote a book I can share with my middle school students. The book makes the kids excited about learning about the U.S. Presidents. The stuff in our common core is so boring and usually wrong. DOB's book contains such neat facts about each president that it really helps the kids remember them. I don't think they will ever forget Taft after reading his chapter. I think it was their favorite.

Such a fun book and a great way to get children (and adults for that matter) into history and learning about the succession of men who have become president. Just enough information to get them asking questions and researching on their own. And just enough entertainment to make them want to read through till the end. My 8-year-old loves it. Highly recommended.

This book gives me hope. Just hope. Lots of hope. So much hope. Whatever is up with the next one.

Daniel O'Brien is funny and smart. O'Brien make learning history about presidents fun.
