John P. Crank is a Professor in School of Criminology and Criminal Justice at the University of Nebraska, Omaha. He received his M.A. in Sociology from the University of Arizona, his M.P.A. from the University of Illinois, and his Ph.D. in Sociology from the University of Colorado. I took a course taught by Caldero, and the book was very interesting and informative.I will say that unless you're intending to become an officer, the book probably has little to no application for you. It's not a general ethics book, but rather a text that focuses on the specific moral and ethical issues one encounters in the law enforcement profession.Also, Caldero is VERY seasoned. He started out on LAPD, transitioned to CHP (which he openly says is in his opinion, the worse law enforcement career there is), and retired after serving the DEA.

Excellent for both law enforcement practitioners and academics.We in law enforcement deal with the myriad ways humans find to abuse and mistreat one another. Often there is no clear answer to the issue or issues raisedThe examples replicate some of the situations street cops, supervisors and administrators deal with. The text makes it clear there is a "slippery slope," and the first step on the "down escalator" makes the second and subsequent steps easier, and easier.Should be required reading/study material in each police training program, nation-wide.
